New Perodua MPV 2009! Wow! Proton vs Perodua!

Wow! After the Proton MPV that i had reported earlier on, the Perodua also release news that they will release a mpv model too in 2009! Means that we will see 2 national MPV born! Detail about the Proton MPV can be view in my previous post. Link: http://jefferynet.blogspot.com/2008/02/proton-mpv-2009-on-test.html

2009 = MPV year
The Proton MPV is schedule to be marketed during first quarter of 2009. While that, the Perodua MPV is going to be released on September 2009.

Perodua MPV = Baby TOYOTA WISH!
About the Perodua MPV, Datuk Hafiz told us that the new MPV will be a 3 row 6 seater mpv. He likened it to Toyota Wish but with a smaller size. Wow! we will have a baby wish! Cool. What's more, the Proton MPV also use Toyota Wish as their benchmarking purpose and we can expect that new Proton MPV will be Wish lookalike too!

Recently, there is a news that Toyota and Daihatsu is going to develop a new MPV in Indonesia and it will be launch somewhere in year 2009 too! So we can assume that we will see the Perodua MPV to be based on that model.

Perodua MPV replacing Toyota Avanza?
Why i say the new Perodua MPV will be replacing Toyota Avanza? Just to let you know, the Avanza is origin from Indonesia too and this model are designed mainly for South East Asia market.
-
In Malaysia, the Toyota Avanza is produced by Perodua and badge under Toyota brand. So its normal that it will be discotinued when Perodua come out with new MPV which will be on same category with that 5 years old Avanza.

How Perodua MPV might look like?
There is few rumour on the net discussing about how the new MPV will look like. There are few version of rumour in net claim how the Perodua new MPV might look like. The most make sense is the Toyota Sienta, Toyota Rush or a completely newly built up new model.
-
Rumour 1: Toyota Sienta?
The first rumour is the Toyota Sienta. Toyota Sienta is on the same category with the new Perodua MPV that going to be produce, so we might able to see this model being redesigned and sold in our market.
-
Here are some shot of Toyota Sienta.

The Toyota Sienta is introduced in Japan since 2003 and most probally it will be replaced by new model in Japan. But it doesn't mean that this model is dead as the Toyota might recycle this model in other country and do some redesign. This is a clever trick from Toyota in their effort to achieve economis of scale.
-
The Toyota Sienta is powered by 1NZ-FE 1.5L VVT-i engine. So it is same category as the Toyota Avanza. Compare with Avanza, Sienta have longer wheel base which is 2700mm compare to avanza's 2655mm. It means that we might have a comfortable 3rd row seat to fit in adults instead of the Avanza 3rd row seat which can only sit 2 kids.
-
Another difference with avanza is the rear door design, the Sienta rear door is sliding door design and it is equipted with electric sliding door in Japan! If it comes to our Perodua MPV, sure it will rocks! The third row seat can be also foldable or remove and can keep the seat right under the tray under the second row seat. This is a brilliant idea for the third seat folding.
-
If you think the outlook if weird, don't worry as Dato' Hafiz already told us that they will produce baby WISH. So even they comeout with this model, they will for sure redesign to exterior look.
-
Rumours 2: Toyota Ractis?
Another rumours will be the Toyota Ractis. The Toyota Ractis is more Toyota Wish look alike if compare to Sienta. There is rumours says that the new MPV might be the extended wheelbase version of the Toyota Ractis.
-
Ractis is powered by same engine as the Toyota Sienta while the Ractis also available in 1.3L variant. The Ractis is introduced in Japan in year 2005 and had been years we hear rumours that Toyota will bring in this model to Malaysia. However, we do not see it in the showroom until now. So perhaps the Perodua will bring in this model as their new MPV.
-
However, the Ractis is a 5 seater mini MPV. So to make it a 6 seater MPV, Perodua will need to do some job to extend the Ractis wheelbase so that it is long enough to accomodate 6.
-
Personally, i prefer this Toyota Ractis design as it gives me the feel of Toyota Wish and Estima! Its such a cool machine! Wow!

-
Or can it be new design?
The 2 model i mentioned above is just rumours and not facts. The new MPV might be based on other model or even a completely new design model! So what we can do is just be patient and wait till more spyshoot of the MPV coming in later when they put the MPV on test.

Off topic a while: New KEMBARA on MAY!
-
Let me off topic a while, the Perodua also planned a debut for a new generation Kembara in this May. For your information, the new kembara is the shorter version of Toyota Rush and having 5 seater capacity instead of 7 seater in Rush. The new generation Kembara will be a completely built up unit imported from Japan which will be higher spec than the Indonesia assembled Toyota Rush. For more information about the new Kembara, visit my previous post: http://jefferynet.blogspot.com/2008/02/perodua-kembara-2008.html
