Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

Do you believe? Sony Ericsson running window operating system? It's first from Sony Ericsson. The machine is named XPERIA X1. Basically, it is a PDA mobile with alots of mobile functionality added.

The biggest selling point for X1 is its 3 inch wide vga screen which is 480 pixel x 800 pixel. Wow! WVGA screen! Thats on par with the Nokia E90! Its even outpace the Nokia E90 as it has a touch sensitive screen.

Beside that, this mobile is running on Window Mobile operating system. Window Mobile had been well known for its business and also entertainment function. However, the user interface of the Window Mobile is differ with the standard Window interface which is claim as boring by most user. Sony Ericsson had redesigned it and give the XPERIA a customisable panel interface which is designed for fingertip navigation comparable with the interface found in APPLE IPHONE.

The QWERTY keyboard are hidden under the screen. The keyboard can be slided out when you want to use it. There is a special point about the slide out keypad, as the keyboard design is featured "arc slider". The XPERIA will curved when the keypad slided out, this will give more comfortable touch for the user to use the keypad. This ergonomic feature is a unique feature that we do not find in other phone yet.

On the camera, the XPERIA X1 comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera that feature auto focus and a flash. This camera will be also able to record VGA(640 x 480) quality video at 30fps.

Just like the other window mobile's phone, the XPERIA is also having great media support such as WMV, MPEG4, AVI, WMA and MP3 format support. Besides that, FM radio also included.

On the document processing, the XPERIA is comes with pocket version of Microsoft Office Word, Powerpoint, Outlook and Excel. The XPERIA also comes with a Internet Explorer, push E-Mail, and RSS reader to enhance the machine's internet capability. What more, the XPERIA also embeded with agps support which will be compatible with all satelite navigation software.

Being a business phone, the network support is a very serious factor. The XPERIA comes with tri-band UMTS, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA and WiFi connectivity. The HSUPA is a new type of broadband connection system where support the download speed of up to 5.7mbps!

However, there are still some dissapointment with this XPERIA. One of the biggest dissapointment is its screen. The screen is just a 65K colour screen which is quite outdated in the market as now phone are equipted with 262k or even 16m colour screen. Another dissapointment is the camera. I believe most of us expect a 5 megapixel phone but the XPERIA just comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The XPERIA will be in the market in second half of year 2008. Overall, i would consider this as a nice business PDA phone. For those interested, just wait for this new business phone to deliver in our market very soon!
